Professionals in biotech information science work as members of the bio-information department of an enterprise. In association with researchers and breeders, information science professionals help design and set up new project support platforms within biotechnology related science. They also help in coordinating various bioinformatics projects that run simultaneously within an enterprise.
As a member of the bio-information department, information science professionals help in providing a competitive customer-oriented working environment and dedicated services to R&D programs. For this, they actively participate to contribute to the definition of new approaches for the implementation of new technologies.
Information science professionals have frequent interactions with bioinformatics competences, scientists, and breeders throughout the entire process of research and development. They typically report to the bio-analysis services team leader and functionally report to the bio-information manager.
The ideal information science professional will have: a PhD degree; experience in multiple research fields related to biotechnology and breeding; knowledge in bio-informatics/ bio-analysis; competencies in statistics; basic knowledge of programming languages and web technologies; the ability to assimilate novel R&D approaches and propose initiatives for new innovations and diversifications; a pro-active mindset and communication; experience in project management; respect for sustainable development and integrity; and a passion to learn and to share knowledge.
