(COMPANY NAME)'s Microbial Traits program is focused on isolating, characterizing, testing, and developing new strains of plant-associated and plant growth promoting bacteria. Building an understanding of the genetics and biology of these strains is critical to developing new microbial products for agricultural use.
This internship will focus on developing and deploying analysis methods for exploring the pangenome of key plant-associated bacterial species at a massive scale, and using insights from these analyses to guide experimental strategy. This is an excellent opportunity to learn and apply genomic, bioinformatic, and data visualization techniques in an industry environment at enterprise scale.
Dates for this internship are May 13-August 2 of 2019
Pursuing a graduate degree in Bioinformatics, Microbial Genetics or Genomics, Computer Science, or a related field (i.e. Microbial Ecology)
Proficient in one or more scripting languages such as R or Python
Experience with analysis of microbial genomes
Must be returning to continue or complete program of study following summer internship
Pursuing a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Microbial Genetics or Genomics, Computer Science, or a related field (i.e. Microbial Ecology)
Knowledge of the genetic bases of plant-microbe interactions
Experience analyzing microbial pangenomes
Experience working with web-based visualization platforms such as D3.js or RShiny
Experience with SQL or other relational database queries
