Bioprocess Development Senior Scientist - Pivotal Drug Substance Technologies
Amgen is seeking a Process Development Senior Scientist to function as a Bioprocess Senior Scientist at its main headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA to join the Pivotal Drug Substance Technologies organization. The Sr Scientist will be responsible for the development, characterization, scale-up and support of processes from cell to drug substance. The Bioprocess Development Scientist will report to the Process Development Senior Scientist and will be central to an integrated group where cell-culture and purification scientists work in combined teams to advance Amgens dynamic pipeline. The Pivotal Drug Substance Technologies organization at Amgen develops, characterizes and supports the commercialization of the drug substance manufacturing processes for all late-stage programs across the Amgen portfolio. The bioprocess development group enables advancement of programs from Ph II/III clinical trials to the marketing application and commercial launch. **Key Activities for the Bioprocess Development Sr Scientist include:** Work on multiple modalities, from antibodies and oncolytic viruses to bi-specifics and siRNAs Apply established platform approaches to rapidly solve cell-culture challenges and design robust processes with efficient experimentation Drive new approaches and utilize out-of-the-box thinking to contribute to technology development Demonstrate the desire to expand and develop skills in harvest and purification, thereby contributing to the integrated bioprocess development approach **Basic Qualifications** Doctorate degree and 2 years of scientific experience OR Masters degree and 5 years of scientific experience OR Bachelors degree and 7 years of scientific experience **Preferred Qualifications** Doctorate (PhD) in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or other relevant scientific field Proven track record problem solving and trouble-shooting cell-culture and harvest processes, in a process development environment Strong understanding and extensive hands-on experience in fed-batch, and perfusion bioreactor process design and troubleshooting Experience in harvest operations, including centrifugation, depth filtration, and tangential flow filtration (TFF) Demonstrated ability to independently identify, develop and implement scientific solutions to practical problems Motivated self- starter with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills Leadership experience of progressively increased scope and a demonstrated ability to inspire and lead a group of scientists to deliver on complex and challenging objectives in defined timelines Demonstrated eminence in the scientific community through a sustained record of peer reviewed publications Excellent verbal communication and scientific writing skills Demonstrated success working with diverse team members in a dynamic, cross-functional environment Familiarity with software-based design of experiments, statistical analysis of data, and data visualization Amgen is committed to unlocking the potential of biology for patients suffering from serious illnesses by discovering, developing, manufacturing and delivering innovative human therapeutics.
