MED TECH III - LABORATORY - FULL TIME','Full-time','Laboratory','FULL TIME','FULL TIME','80','80','Occasional','Occasional','ARKANSAS-HOT SPRINGS-CHI HOSPITAL HOT SPRINGS','','!*!JOB SUMMARY: Assist the director and/or operations manager in the supervision of all sections of the lab during off hours. Assuming responsibility of all procedures performed and all systems within the laboratory.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist the Director in the supervision of a shift.
Follows established procedures and requirements set forth by the Lead in each individual department.
Revises schedules of subordinate staff in the event of a call in.
Trains and orients new employees,
Carries out disciplinary procedures.
Reviews workload and guides staff in additional studies regarding problems related to correlation of test results and disease states.
Ensures that tests are performed in a timely manner, particularly in STAT situations, coordinates timed test with nursing personnel and other departments.
Oversees specimen-processing on off hours, works with nursing regarding questionable test, duplicate test or other questions relating to the general laboratory.
Resolves grievances, takes disciplinary action as necessary.
Supervises all technical aspect of a shift.
Coordinates with pathologist on unusual test results, diagnostic reports or computer functions.
Recognized problems with test procedures/laboratory data/computer system functions that indicate erroneous trends.
Acts as a resource person for technical or computer system problems.
Prepares preventive maintenance and quality control schedules in conjunction with the lead tech.
Inspects instruments and computer hardware, ensuring proper working order and troubleshooting as necessary.
Oversees special procedures and difficult clinical assays.
Performs the duties of a Medical Technologist as needed.
Has the skills and ability to step into any position under his/her supervision.
Maintains current knowledge of new procedures, developments, techniques and methods regarding laboratory services.
Maintains a clean, organized, and sanitary work area, observing OSHA guidelines.
','!*!MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Position requires a Bachelor of Science or post-graduate degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology or Physical Science and at least (3) year of experience in a clinical laboratory or Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology with (5) years of experience.
Certification: Registration with an accrediting agency such as ASCP, NCA, or AML.
Physical Requirements: This job requires, at various times, the following physical activities; climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, carrying, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, talking, and hearing, sometimes exerting in excess of 10-50 pounds of force.
The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform daily activities.
The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions, hazards (including electrical currents and exposure to chemicals), and infectious diseases.
Skills: Must possess working knowledge of the laboratory/department to include test flow, reporting mechanisms, and policies and procedures. Must possess demonstrated organizational skills. Must possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written; must be able to conduct inservice training. Must possess demonstrated technical competence and supervisory ability.
