Schedule -Part-time Job -Professional Clinical\/Allied Health Daily Schedule-4 - 8 PM Scheduled Hours per 2-week Pay Period-40 Weekends Required-Occasional GENERAL SUMMARY: Acts as technical information resource for Mercy ClinicalLaboratory. Identifies problems that may adversely affect testperformance and\/or results and uses knowledge, critical thinking skills, andjudgment to troubleshoot and resolve them. May be assigned to assume the duties of a charge technologist. Performstasks and procedures specific to assigned department with minimal supervision. ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS: Uses educational and technical expertise totroubleshoot issues related to specimen quality, instrument\/method performanceand analytical interferences to ensure patient results match clinical status. Assists and supports quality management systemsand performance improvement initiatives. Utilizes LEAN principles\/productivitystandards. Works independently, organizing work to meetestablished deadlines and records. Maintains supply inventories. Trains new employees and acts as a preceptor formedical laboratory science students. Operates laboratory information systems, personalcomputers, and instrument-related computer software. Provides exceptional customer service tointernal and external customers. \u00a0 Functions specific to West Lakes Lab, Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistryand Microbiology Sections: Performs complex laboratory procedures utilizedfor the diagnosis and treatment of disease as appropriate for patient age toinclude neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric adults;recognizes deviation from expected results; analyzes and corrects problemsusing scientific principles. Analyzes quality control data, makes judgmentsconcerning the results, and takes appropriate action to maintain test accuracyand precision. Performs preventive maintenance and basictroubleshooting of instrumentation and equipment. Performs new instrument or procedureimplementation and training. May be assigned to assume duties of chargetechnologist in absence of supervisor\/manager. \u00a0 Functions specific to Technical Resolution Section: Serves as technical resource for tests referred from Mercy Clinical Laboratory to other testing facilities. Scans or enters send-out testing reports into LIS and maintains standing orders for outreach patients\/clients. Performs billing functions including but not limited to: entering test charges & credits and proper diagnosis codes when provided by client. Ensures timely follow-up of customer complaints, issues and need for redraws. Documents all contact made with client in client services incident management system. Rectifies registration errors on outreach patients such as updating\/correcting demographic information, updating \u201cbill to\u201d information, and ensuring patient report is issued under correct registration account. \u00a0 MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: Serves on hospital and laboratory committees as requestedby supervisor\/manager. Responsible for regulatory-related tasks as delegated bysupervisor\/manager. Assigned as Charge Tech when supervisor\/manager absent. Provides assistance to other laboratory teammembers. Provides backup coverage for client servicesrepresentatives and supply chain specialist as needed (Technical Resolution area only).\u00a0 MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or inChemistry, Biology or related field. One-year clinical internship in a NationalAccrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science(NAACLS) accredited clinical laboratory science program or approvedalternate\u00a0career paththat meets certification eligibility requirements. Certification in one of the following: \u00a0Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or MedicalTechnologist (MT) bythe American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). \u00a0Medical Technologist (MT) by the AmericanMedical Technologists (AMT). \u00a0Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Associationof Bioanalysts (AAB). A person may be hired into this position if he\/she hascompleted the educational requirements and is eligible for the certificationexam. The exam must be successfully completed within six (6) months of hire.
