Gilead seeks a highly motivated, interactive, and creative individual to support current oncology/immune oncology development drug candidates and drive target discovery and validation efforts that would enable target evaluation and selection of optimal drug combinations. The successful applicant will work in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment to initiate and support projects from inception through clinical development. In addition, he/she will aid or drive the identification and validation of drug targets and those that will combine with current pipeline molecules and implement appropriate decisional experiments to help advance drug candidates into the pipeline.
Essential Duties and Job Responsibilities:
Independently plans, executes, and troubleshoots decisional experiments that support the initiation and/or advancement of drug candidate projects into the pipeline. Works cross-functionally within the organization to achieve goals. Presents research findings and recommendations to senior staff. Identifies new technologies that may increase throughput or enhance our understanding of disease mechanisms.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
Applicants must have a BS degree with 5 years of relevant experience or an MS degree with 4 years of relevant experience, preferably in industry; job title will be commensurate with experience. Candidates should have direct experience in research drug discovery and target identification/validation in oncology, preferably with an emphasis on immune-oncology. Technical skills should include extensive cell culture experience and development and execution of various cell-based assay using large (biologics) and small-molecule inhibitors; experience with FACS, ELISA, luminex, and qPCR and general interest in learning new assays is a plus.
Applicants should be able to troubleshoot independently, use both strategic and tactical thinking effectively, and show curiosity-driven engagement in scientific problems. The successful candidate will be able to manage more than one project at any given time, to work successfully in a cross-functional and highly collaborative team environment, and to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences.
