The Department of Cellular and Tissue Genomics within Genentech Research and Early Development is seeking a highly talented and driven scientific researcher to join the department to generate and utilize high content perturbation maps for biological and drug discovery. She/he will work as part of a research group whose mission is to develop and apply scalable tools for screens for complex biological phenotypes. The experimental and computational toolbox developed should create a path to comprehensively characterize cell and tissue circuits at the single cell level, and to better understand the function of genetic variants in complex diseases. The scope of the screening activities will span biological disciplines, including immunology, molecular oncology, cancer immunology, angiogenesis, neurobiology and regenerative medicine. She/he will apply these tools to perform cutting edge screens to identify novel therapeutic targets and next-generation biomarkers to enable precision medicine therapies for patients.
Responsible for helping to design and implement pooled screens with single cell and imaging readouts
Pursue scalable tools enabling genome-wide or combinatorial high information content screens
Work together with machine learning teams to develop and apply models to describe molecular circuitry and identify new biomarkers and therapeutic targets
Analyze available datasets or profile clinical trial samples to identify the preferred biological systems capturing physiology of disease
Collaborate with disease experts across the different therapeutic areas
Contribute to high impact publications in high quality scientific journals and will have the opportunity to present externally though presentations at key internal and external meetings
Masters or Doctorate degree in both experimental and computational expertise in genetics and systems biology using single-cell RNA-seq (scRNA-seq) methods. Post-doctoral or equivalent experience desirable
Strong publication record of impactful discoveries
Relevant experience with:
-Novel NGS and genomics platforms applied to single cell RNA-sequencing analysis or
-Performing large scale single cell screens ( e.g.
Perturb-Seq) collecting readouts ranging from scRNA-seq to protein to optical in various settings including in vivo
, ex vivo
, and cell line systems or
-Inventing and deploying new single-cell screening methods ( e.g.
split-pool, SHARE-Seq) using CRISPR technology and applications in vivo
, ex vivo
, and in cell lines
Proficient in bioinformatics including high throughput omics and imaging data analysis (including scRNA-seq), visualization, and interpretation
Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work within a team comprised of diverse expertise
Excellent oral and written presentation skills
