We are seeking a highly motivated computational scientist with academic and/or industry experience to join our Computational Genomics team in the Translational Bioinformatics group in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate will lead the Computational Proteomics group which is responsible for exploring innovative research methods to analyze and interpret proteomics and protegenomics data sets, , establishing best practices and robust data analysis workflows, and providing subject matter expertise to project teams and other stakeholders across the company. In this key role the individual will actively interface with the Discovery & Translational Proteomics team in Cambridge, Discovery and Translational research teams working on various drug development programs, as well as the broader bioinformatics teams within the Integrative & Predictive Sciences (IPS) organization.
Responsibilities
Build and lead an industry leading Computational Proteomics group
Set scientific strategy and objectives in collaboration with stakeholders
Advocate, adopt and influence overall industry best practices associated with computational proteomics & proteogenomics
Ensure adherence to best practices within the group
Interface with and leverage wider computational genomics capabilities within the IPS organization
Effectively communicate best practices to key stakeholders and provide a platform that streamlines the implementation across all BMS sites
Develop, optimize, and monitor innovative use of Proteomics applications from Discovery through Translation to advance BMS pipeline projects to achieve our mission of helping patients with unmet needs
Qualifications:
Ph.D. with 3-5 years, or Masters with 5-10 years of relevant (industry or academia) experience is required. Education should be in the fields of Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related disciplines
Ability to lead a team of highly skilled scientists in a matrixed environment
Deep experience in Proteomics data structure of latest platforms (DIA, DDA, label free, targeted, chemical proteomics, TMT, SILAC) is required
Profficency with utilization of outputs from proteomics software packages such as Maxquant, PEAKS, Spectronaut, Bioworks and other is required
Proven experience in developing, optimizing and maintaining proteomics data processing pipelines
Deep familiarity with Design of Experiment and associated statistical methods is necessary
Proven experience in Cloud computing system (AWS or Google Cloud) and databases (SQL, PostgreSQL BigQuery). Experience in Seven Bridges, Domino and R shiny app development will be a plus
Experience in mining public protein -omics data repositories (e.g. CPTAC, MassIVE, PRIDE, PeptideAtlas, ProteinAtlas, ProteomeXchange Phosphosite, BioGrid, IntAct, TCGA, cBioportal, DepMap, COSMIC, GeneBank, ProteinAtlas, CMAP)
Proficiency integrating and analyzing high-dimensional data, omics data sets (Proteomics, RNAseq and other NGS data) to deliver insights and hypothesis: e.g. multivariate, casual interference, Bayesian statistics or machine learning. Working knowledge of functional genomics and network biology is a plus
Experience in NGS data processing pipelines and Proteogenomics is highly desirable
Extensive experience in programming, scripting, querying and statistical analysis languages such as R, Python, Perl, Bash, Java is a must.
Proven expertise in different aspects of NGS and proteomics is required. Expertise in proteogenomics is desirable.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential in order to enable working across Discovery & Translational organizations
Proven ability to publish research is required
