Pediatric Specialists of Virginia's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders clinic, located in Falls Church, VA is presently seeking a Medical Lab Technologist to provide coverage to the lab.

Overview

Performs Chemistry and Hematology procedures in accordance with established procedures and policies. Records and reports results; operates and maintains equipment; monitors quality control standards; evaluates new instruments and tests. Performs clerical and service duties as required.

• Serves as a technical resource for Medical Lab Technicians and Laboratory Associates.

• Reports tests accurately in writing, orally and/or in the LIS.

• Demonstrates knowledge of LIS.

• Follows established guidelines for reporting STAT results and critical values, properly documenting calls.

• Credits tests appropriately using correct workload exclusion codes.

• Reviews testing logs and completes tests within shift.

• Performs equipment and instrument maintenance according to protocols.

• Follows recommended manufacturer's and/or department defined instrument performance checks and calibrations prior to testing.

• Makes adjustments or minor repairs with the aid of instrument manuals or technical service by telephone.

• Assists Medical Lab Technician in resolving problems.

• Performs, evaluates and reports QC protocol. Identifies and resolves QC failures.

• Identifies and resolves QC failures.

• Documents resolutions.

• Assists MLT and LA with unresolved problems.

Minimum Qualifications Required

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or equivalent related field of science.

• 2 to 3 years of related experience in an accredited clinical laboratory.

• Experience performing lab computer tasks and scheduling.

• LIS (Laboratory Information System) computer experience preferred.

• Math Ability Level: Basic calculations.

• Ability to work with detailed procedures.
