MilliporeSigma is searching for an Bio Manufacturing Engineer, to join the Purification Team within the Manufacturing Sciences and Technologies Downstream Group. This position serves as a member of a small team (2-4) of technical subject matter experts for MilliporeSigma’s purification technologies, and has a strong Chromatography focus. Based in Billerica, Massachusetts, approximately 20-30% travel in and outside of the US is required. \r
Your Role: Serve as a key technical contact for biopharmaceutical customers/clients on critical chromatography purification projects. Provide consultative expertise and technical support for best practices, process development, scale-up and implementation of purification applications. Design experiments and execute experimental protocols with minimal supervision to understand process sensitivity and troubleshoot operational issues. Assess the feasibility and soundness of proposed experiments, materials, or equipment. Critically examine/analyze data and model process behavior to characterize process performance. Recommend scale-up strategies and implementation to Biopharmaceutical customers and clients. Serve as key interface for Sales, R&D and Marketing Groups for Voice of the Customer and Market Trends. Design and execute reviews/audits to examine process sequence, operation protocol, design parameters and recommend appropriate changes. Keep abreast of the latest development in chromatography technologies including continuous chromatography and linked chromatography processes. Proactively seek out thought leadership opportunities to advance the industry “state of the art”. Interface with local and international MSAT colleagues to ensure a common Best Practices technical approach for application development and implementation. Recommend continuous improvement in both tools and methodologies. \r
Who You Are: BS/MS in Chemical Engineering with 5 years of experience in related field. Strong background and practical experience in the purification of proteins & biomolecules. The candidate will have in depth experience in chromatography unit operations including column packing at pilot and large scale. Knowledge of the development, scale up and implementation of bioprocess downstream purification technology is an advantage. The candidate will possess a sound knowledge of engineering fundamentals- especially fluid dynamics and an understanding of process economics, and process validation. Have a demonstrated ability to design experiments and troubleshoot operational issues. Understand scaling issues, constraints and sizing techniques relating to all MilliporeSigma applications. Possess a current and high level of technical competency in our markets, applications and products. The candidate must possess an ability to take ownership of complex projects involving diverse groups of individuals. Can produce presentation quality reports in a timely fashion. Possess well-developed verbal, listening and written communication skills and excellent customer facing skills. \r
