Overview The primary responsibilities of the Scientific Supervisor in publications are two-fold: 1) to drive scientific strategy across their publication accounts and 2) to supervise and develop Scientific Associates and Senior Scientific Associates who report into them. From the scientific strategy perspective, the Scientific Supervisor is expected to have comprehensive scientific knowledge and understanding of both the therapeutic category (inclusive of the treatment paradigm and competitive landscape) as well as in-depth knowledge of the compound. The Scientific Supervisor is client-facing and should feel comfortable leading and participating in scientific as well as strategic discussions both internally and externally. When it comes to mentoring and supervising junior staff, the scientific supervisor will be expected to review the work of their reportees and provide constructive oversight as well as provide growth and development opportunities and advice. While the Sci Supervisor will be expected to execute writing activities, the bulk of their work is strategic and supervisory in nature.In addition, the Scientific Supervisor will be involved in new business initiatives and should know how to identify and capitalize on organic growth opportunities with existing clients. Having experience in the industry, the Scientific Supervisor should be comfortable and effective working in a collaborative environment with internal (account, editorial, and creative services) and external client teams (brand and project leads, as well as medical affairs as needed). Being able to work independently, multi-task across accounts, and be seen as a valued client partner are critical to the Scientific Supervisor role. Description of Duties• Comprehensive understanding of the publication process, including GPP3, ICMJE recommendations, and the development and documentation of compliant material with a working understanding of Datavision (or PMSolution)• Creation of publication plans and scientific content development, including execution of abstracts and posters to manuscript and slide support• Proven strategic thinking and the ability to read and distill data into audience appropriate materials for products pre- to post-launch • Ability to present to and liaise with clients, and successfully run client meetings• Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients, scientific investigators, and experts in the diagnosis and therapeutic management of chronic disease• Deep new business experience from organic growth to new business pitch support and participation• History of leadership across multiple accounts• Train and mentor account executives on industry-, company-, and group-relevant standardso Set clear expectations and milestones for employee growth and spearhead routine performance reviews o Identify, foster, and monitor necessary skills development for junior staff• Excellent communication skills both verbal and written• Workshop facilitation experience and experience in developing other medical communication materials a plus Minimum Requirements• Advanced degree in biomedical field, MD, PhD• CMPP certification• 3-4 years' experience in the medical communications industry, at least 2 years in publications• Proven experience as the scientific lead on at least 2 accounts in publications• Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently or as part of a team • Can effectively manage time, multi-task, and handle a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment • Previous management or supervisory experience• Excellent computer skills, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, EndNote• Experience in inflammatory disease and/or gastroenterology preferred EEO StatementSyneos Health is an Equal Opportunity Employer that values the strength that diversity brings to the workplace.
