Job Description:

We are seeking a creative and a self-motivated Scientist

to join a multi-disciplinary laboratory at Rush University in the department of Immunology & Microbiology.

Position Highlights:

This position is responsible for determining how HIV evades Natural Killer cell destruction through the ability of the virus to modulate activation and inhibitory ligands.

The Scientist will oversee the execution of the studies in determining how pathogens evade immune destruction and by doing so create therapeutic agents to counter these evasion strategies.

The position exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

Position Responsibilities:

The Perform studies to determine the interaction between virus proteins and host proteins in the infected cell.

Develops, implements and executes novel and existing techniques for processing data regarding genes expressed by NK cells in response to infected cells in the presence or absence of virus counter measures.

Develops and implements advanced techniques for studying virus genetics of various lentiviral species.

Develops and maintains quality control procedures and documentation for analysis methodologies.

Works closely with infectious disease physicians to obtain specimens for the study.

Supports manuscript and grant-writing efforts.

Maintains careful records of all work performed.

Assists with the training and supervision of other staff/students in appropriate use of new techniques.

Performs related duties as required

Position Qualifications Include:

Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology, cell biology, Immunology or related field.

At least three years recent experience in molecular biology is recommended.

Excellent communication and analytical skills.

Good technical writing skills.

Ability to prioritize and manage own work.

Must have a clear interest in collaborative, multidisciplinary teamwork.

Highly-motivated, enthusiastic and detail-oriented.

Ability to work independently.
