Provide engineering services to medical and research areas including selection, acquisition and service of medical devices, project management, technical investigations of clinical incidents, clinical/technical problem-solving, device design and solution of novel system and technical problems. Under guidance and supervision, finalize individual projects through all stages of a project plan. Work with a multi-disciplinary team of internal and external customers and stakeholders to identify the needs, coordinate the purchase, complete the installation, help organize the in-service training, plan for the handoff to day-to-day operations, and document the project. Assist in capital equipment purchases and preparation of budgets. Coordinate with clinical or research departments to design, implement, and analyze studies for new medical equipment evaluations and trials. Evaluate safety and efficacy of medical devices. Investigate cost-effectiveness of alternatives to current technologies and recommend quality improvement activities regarding medical equipment. Contribute to the implementation of strategies for technology management in assigned clinical areas or technologies. Under supervision and guidance, investigate clinical incidents involving medical devices, as well as prepare and file appropriate reports (with department QA and Safety Coordinator), disseminate information regarding possible hazards, and implement corrective action. Communicate to manufacturers about problems with medical devices and ensures appropriate response. Develop, participate in and contribute to new and existing training programs and educational programs for clinical and technical staff. Serve as a department resource, providing on-call response to administrative, management and/or technical problems. Perform other related duties as required.
Must have a Bachelors degree in Clinical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Bioengineering or related engineering field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or 2 years of clinical engineering experience in a hospital, industry or academic setting involving the following: 1) working with medical instrumentation and clinical use models of medical instrumentation, and 2) diagnosing and solving technical and/or system challenges.
