Specialized, advanced knowledge generally of particular area, system or technologically advanced instruments and scientific applications . Requires specific training and certification. Utilizes independent judgment and discretion in analysis of regional needs, customer particularized needs and problem solving issues that arise both during and after implementation process, as well as training needs of field staff in region. May adapt procedures, processes, tools equipment and techniques to meet the more complex requirements of the position. Duties are generally complex. Independently analyzes and resolves most questions and problems and refers only the most complex issues to higher levels. Adapts procedures, processes tools, equipment and techniques to accomplish the requirement of the position. Duties and tasks reflect substantial variety and complexity. Assignments are broad in nature and usually require originality, ingenuity, and analysis. Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues. Trains and assists and audits the work of lower level employees. Works independently under no direct supervision. Provides lead project management responsibilities and conducts customer business process reviews, often acting as the lead. Serves as subject matter expert with customers and field staff in the region. Actively engages in marketing or product development initiatives. Responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the quality system and achieving quality objectives through daily actions. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this highly responsible position.

The Field Application Consultant will:

• Serves as the Roche liaison and technical expert with customers on all consultative, administrative and technical matters. Consistently uses scientific background and expertise to review, analyze and resolve complex customer questions and problems involving Roche solutions. Regularly resolves escalated issues from lower levels. May refer only the most complex issues to higher levels. Accomplishes work with no direct supervision. • As a senior member of the field team, coaches and mentors lower levels. Includes providing assignments of work activities. Designs and formalizes mentoring activities for lower levels. Actively gathers feedback on lower levels through direct engagement with junior staff and customers. Provides input and recommendations on lower level staff job performance to Regional Support Managers. • Provides pre and post-sales scientific/technical expertise during the installation, implementation and maintenance of company solutions. Partners with commercial staff in assessing potential application of company products to meet customer needs and implementation of customer products/applications/solutions. Uses in-depth product knowledge and scientific background to provide technical expertise to commercial staff and customers to support all pre and/or post sales activities. Ensures that customer needs have been met and that the product/solution is fully functioning according to specification and in accordance with customer’s particularized needs. Assists customers with workflow or operational issues related to instrumentation or automation. Project manages and implements solutions including: verification, calibration and/or evaluation of Roche equipment, applications and/or systems. Responsible for upgrades or patches and support as required. • Monitors equipment, product and system performance ensuring operational quality, and reports only the most complex issues to higher levels. Regularly independently devises and implements solutions to address any trends impacting system performance. • Conducts tailored - customer training for all Roche solutions. Trains key operators on the use and maintenance of the equipment, applications, IT products and/or systems. Conducts on-site training seminars and re-training per customer requests. Conducts staff field training and may assist lower levels with more complex training needs. • Supports commercial activities by promoting Roche solutions and identifying opportunities new system consumables (i.e. reagents, primary antibodies, bio-markers, software). Provides leads to sales team. Identifies opportunities for competitive system consolidation or replacements. Actively engages in marketing and product development initiatives. • Provides input to key internal stakeholders on product quality and functionality with outcomes focused on long-term product quality and functionality improvements. ','Where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point.','!*!• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Information Technology, Computer Science, Chemistry, Biology or Clinical Laboratory or equivalent work experience. • 3 years of experience implementing, and evaluating complex laboratory, IT products, medical diagnostic equipment, reagents and/or systems. Field implementation and training specialist experience or related experience. • Previous experience mentoring and/or training. • Previous experience as a Medical Technologist (ASCP) or equivalent clinical laboratory experience or IT experience in a clinical environment (i.e. hospital, laboratory, university). • Ability to learn Roche solutions (i.e. chemistry, immunology, molecular, life sciences, IT solutions,), and stay current with industry trends. Strong written/verbal communication skills as well as project management experience. • Strong customer consultative skills which includes application of scientific knowledge and analysis, exceptional customer engagement, and fostering of customer relationships. • Can work as a field based individual contributor with independence and autonomy. • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor junior staff and lead by example.
