Microbiology and Immunology
Position Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities
This position is to provide applications support, analyze user application needs, and determine and evaluate alternative solutions and approaches to meeting the needs of the bioinformatics research at Department of Microbiology. Evaluate the procurement of third party software and troubleshoot new software installations. Develop specifications and requirements for the optimal integration of systems and equipment and evaluate requirements against available systems. Design fully integrated systems which may include applications, databases, networks, and related systems. Develop program specifications and review them with the user to ensure that requirements are met. Recommend modifications to third party software to meet user needs. Act as a liaison to faculty, students, staff, and vendors for the department of Microbiology.
Minimum Hiring Standards
Demonstrated technical knowledge in several computer languages such as
, C,C ,
, etc..Knowledge of personal computer software..Experience with
, Windows..Experience with bioinformatics software, including
, Phred Phrap,
and other standard packages, etc..Experience with next-generation sequencing technologies ? 454/Roche, Illumina etc. .Competence in the use of parallel super computers/clusters.. Ability to work in a diverse environment is required.
Preferred Hiring Standards
Familiarity with relevant bioinformatics software, including searching, sequence analysis, data, etc.
Required Licenses/ Certifications
MS degree or higher in information systems, computer science, or bioinformatics is preferred or equivalent applicable experience and/or training.
Anticipated Hiring Range
$45,000 - $65,000
