The Department of Cell Biology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine has an exciting career opportunity for a Research Associate 1. This position will be responsible for planning and coordinating with the Principal Investigator on all aspects of molecular biology and animal research projects. The Research Associate 1 will need to have experience administering drug treatments in animal models and will need to be well versed in xenograft models of human cancer. The Research Associate 1 will communicate with and collaborate with other members of the research laboratory. This position will receive supervision and direction from the Principal Investigator and senior staff. Specifically, the duties and responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to, performing complex laboratory assignments including cell culture, transfection, PCR, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, protein isolation and purification; managing transgenic animal colonies and maintaining detailed breeding records; establishing syngeneic and xenograft cancer models and administering drug treatments through injections and oral gavage; scheduling and performing experiments in a research laboratory; interpreting experimental data and maintaining accurate records; developing, adapting, and implementing new laboratory protocols and SOPs; assisting in the preparation of data and figures for manuscripts, grants, and scientific presentations; and ordering supplies, operating scientific equipment, and maintaining invoice records.
The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Bachelor's Degree in a basic or health science related field of study such as Biology, Molecular Biology, or a closely related discipline. Prefer two years of relevant work related experience in molecular/cellular biology. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a good command of the English language. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work collaboratively with others. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
