We seek a highly motivated Associate Director to join our Global Research IT team at Merck. As leader of a Genomic Data Management team, the successful candidate will ensure business value is realized from genomic data and analyses associated with Exome, RNA-SEQ, Single Cell RNA, Metagenomics and other types of sequencing. The role will focus on management of end-to-end operations of genomics data management, from acquisition from partners, collaborators and public databases through the delivery of processed biological measurements suitable for translational research into analysis systems.
Job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Manage a group of bioinformatics scientists and developers and oversea multiple dimensional genomic data management and operation.
Partner with client service leads in portfolio planning and computing resource planning.
Manage the workflow of data transfer, quality control and data process in collaboration with project management and engineering teams.
Transfer data processing pipelines from research scale into operational services capable of meeting the volume, time and quality requirements of our translational medicine business strategy.
Collaborate with Engineering team to define, improve and co-develop the workflow framework for in-house high performance computing and for cloud-based computing.
Develop and manage protocols for data transfers from external partners and vendors.
Develop next-generation sequencing data quality control metrics including whole exome sequencing, RNA-SEQ, single cell RNA-SEQ and metagenomic sequencing data.
Manage and document data flow and process such as versioning of data process pipelines, metadata and project information.
Integrate public omics and genetics databases to support drug discovery research.
A Bachelors Degree Required.
Master degree or a Ph.D. degree with a focus on computational biology, bioinformatics, or computer science or related fields, or equivalent experience preferred.
A minimum of five years industrial experience for Master degree and two years for Ph.D. degree in large-scale genomic data analysis, integration and management.
A demonstrated track record of leading projects or programs across multiple business organizations.
Ability to drive, operate and executive data management projects effectively.
Extensively experience to use the workflow framework to develop next-generation sequencing data analysis pipelines.
Familiar with next-generation sequencing technology and data flow such as whole genome sequencing, exome sequencing and transcriptome sequencing.
Experience with genome-wide association studies, copy number variation and microarray data analysis.
Proficiency in programming languages (Python, Perl, C, C ) in a Unix/Linux environment.
Experience with high-performance Linux cluster and cloud computing.
Experience of using commercial NGS data management and analysis software.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Experience in statistics, including familiarity with mathematics and statistics packages such as R.
