Acts as technical information resource for Mercy Clinical
Laboratory.

Identifies problems that may adversely affect test
performance and/or results and uses knowledge, critical thinking skills, and
judgment to troubleshoot and resolve them. 
May be assigned to assume the duties of a charge technologist. Performs
tasks and procedures specific to assigned department with minimal supervision.

 

ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:

Uses educational and technical expertise to
troubleshoot issues related to specimen quality, instrument/method performance
and analytical interferences to ensure patient results match clinical status. Assists and supports quality management systems
and performance improvement initiatives. Utilizes LEAN principles/productivity
standards.Works independently, organizing work to meet
established deadlines and records. Maintains supply inventories.Trains new employees and acts as a preceptor for
medical laboratory science students.Operates laboratory information systems, personal
computers, and instrument-related computer software.Provides exceptional customer service to
internal and external customers.













 

Functions specific to West Lakes Lab, Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistry
and Microbiology Sections:

Performs complex laboratory procedures utilized
for the diagnosis and treatment of disease as appropriate for patient age to
include neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric adults;
recognizes deviation from expected results; analyzes and corrects problems
using scientific principles.Analyzes quality control data, makes judgments
concerning the results, and takes appropriate action to maintain test accuracy
and precision.Performs preventive maintenance and basic
troubleshooting of instrumentation and equipment.Performs new instrument or procedure
implementation and training.May be assigned to assume duties of charge
technologist in absence of supervisor/manager.









 

Functions specific to Technical Resolution Section:

Serves as technical
resource for tests referred from Mercy Clinical Laboratory to other
testing facilities.  Scans or enters send-out
testing reports into LIS and maintains standing orders for outreach
patients/clients.Performs billing functions
including but not limited to: 
entering test charges & credits and proper diagnosis codes when
provided by client. Ensures timely follow-up
of customer complaints, issues and need for redraws.  Documents all contact made
with client in client services incident management system.Rectifies registration errors
on outreach patients such as updating/correcting demographic information,
updating “bill to” information, and ensuring patient report is issued
under correct registration account. 


 

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

Serves on hospital and laboratory committees as requested
by supervisor/manager.Responsible for
regulatory-related tasks as delegated by supervisor/manager.Assigned as Charge Tech
when supervisor/manager absent. Provides assistance to other laboratory team
members.Provides backup coverage for client services
representatives and supply chain specialist as needed (Technical Resolution area only). 








','!*!MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE,
SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or in
Chemistry, Biology or related field. One-year clinical internship in a National
Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science
(NAACLS) accredited clinical laboratory science program or approved
alternate career path
that meets certification eligibility requirements.

Certification in one of the following: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical
Technologist (MT) by
the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).  Medical Technologist (MT) by the American
Medical Technologists (AMT). Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Association
of Bioanalysts (AAB).A person may be hired into this position if he/she has
completed the educational requirements and is eligible for the certification
exam. The exam must be successfully completed within six (6) months of hire.
