I came across a few articles talking about how stem cell research could help end animal testing. Animal lovers across the world unite. We have finally found an end to animal testing so we no longer need to protest the abuse and mutilation of our poor, helpless friends. This could be a huge breakthrough in the scientific communities and might finally bridge the ever-widening and unrelenting gap between them and the environmentalists.

With embryonic stem cells, they can create heart cells for laboratory testing. These human heart cells would ultimately replace rodents and dogs as their test subjects. This solves two huge problems at once. Not only do they stop testing on defenseless animals, they also test on human subjects making their lab results much more specific and accurate. Drugs released on the market will come at no cost to human decency to animals, and will be much more prepared for the real market, solving real problems.

Many pharmaceutical companies will be relieved as well, knowing their products will cause fewer side effects. How many times have we seen pharmaceutical companies involved in a hefty lawsuit over unexpected side effects in the drugs they released. If they have easier and more effective ways to test their drugs on actual human tissue, imagine how many of these companies will be able to release their products with more confidence. On the other hand, those who still release drugs that cause these same terrible side effects will have fewer excuses to support them in a court of law. If they have all the accessibility to test their drugs on human hearts, then they should see real results and know exactly what to expect when their product is released into a world of unsuspecting consumers.

These breakthroughs can make biotech jobs very exciting, and can inspire many younger kids to explore into the realms of biology and bioengineering. When such controversial issues like this get resolved in the name of science, jobs in biotech suddenly increase their wide appeal and receive a huge amount of positive exposure. We're already seeing countries like the UK announcing this breakthrough and following it with huge scientific promotion. Many US scientists hope president-elect Obama will follow suit, as he has been known to be a supporter in stem cell research. With high officials happily announcing these breakthroughs, kids all across the world will begin to dream up possibilities of their future in a world of bioengineering.

With governments getting behind these breakthroughs, we are going to see a huge increase of biotechnology jobs all across the world. Research laboratories will receive their government grants with billions of dollars in funding, and those who are ready to jump on board will become a part of a new movement in revolutionary science!

Funding, or the lack thereof, has been a huge obstacle for stem cell research in the US. Due to the controversial issues revolving abortion and its misconstrued connection to stem cells, many research labs in the US have been stymied time and time again. Researchers from the UK, who are allowed to research at will without having to worry about the dotted lines they aren't allowed to cross, come to the US and stare in amazement at all the rules and opposition researchers here face. Such debates have only caused problems and will continue to keep scientists from unraveling the miraculous possibilities that'll stem from stem cell research. Also due to these debates and this constant opposition, many jobs in biotechnology have been lost. With the possibilities of funding going back and forth, many potential stem cell researchers await the decision to see if they'll be able to find work in biotechnology, or if they need to enter other fields and waste their time mutating garden vegetables, ridding them of seeds and other inconveniences for the American People. This is the very sort of problem that reduces the appeal of said jobs. Why would junior high and high school kids, studying biology for the first time, gain an interest in life sciences when all they see and read about in the news surrounds the negative opposition from misinformed fanatics? Why would anyone dream of facing the perpetual headache caused by these angry protests?

Science is finding a way to resolve issues through breakthroughs such as this. Many of these fanatics have been crying out due to the harm caused against animals, and it's easy to understand why. It's hard to not feel a little pain inside looking at pictures of fluffy bunnies and whimpering dogs that have been mutilated to some degree and are in pain as the result of a failed experiment. So this should ease our minds and help us to embrace this revolutionary new science. Stem cell research has the potential to cure so many human illnesses; we can't dismiss such opportunities due to a simple lack of understanding.

If we continue to see breakthroughs such as these, I think we will begin to see an increase in acceptance and understanding of this new science. We will finally drop the barriers we have created for ourselves and allow science to take its course and solve more of our problems. In doing so, we will see an increase in popularity for the highly coveted biotechnology job that truly gets the job done! Kids in high school and junior high won't see all the protests lining the streets in front of scientific research labs, they'll see all the millions of people cured from diseases that have plagued the world for centuries. They will see scientists reap the glory of having invented the cure that brought so much relief and happiness back into the lives of those this world almost lost. They will see a future of endless possibilities in the realm of science, and more specifically, Biotechnology.
