May specialize in particular area or field of work and be designated Chemist, Clinical; Chemist, Enzymes; Chemist, Proteins; Chemist, Steroids. May clean, purify, refine, and otherwise prepare pharmaceutical compounds for commercial distribution and develop new drugs and medications and be designated Chemist, Pharmaceutical.
